How to Choose the Right Photographer + Videographer for your Wedding
Just the other day, I found myself in a cozy little coffee shop, sipping a mocha latte and having a soul-stirring conversation with none other than Rachel Perera from www.onacloudcreative.com about the whirlwind world of weddings, she shared some eye-opening insights on finding the right photographer and videographer for your big day.
Rachel put together some amazing tips for our brides-to-be:

Personality & EQ.
Some may be surprised that I didn’t suggest photo and video style first but I promise there's a reason why. The company you decide to work with can either assist you in creating a seamless planning process or make it super challenging. Before you jump into timelines, have a conversation and get to know who you are working with. Share what is super important to you both and see if this will be heavily taken into consideration. The last thing you want is a difficult personality type that you need to tiptoe around.
Photography Style.
Styles can definitely range, especially with the abundance of multiple filters and techniques. Ultimately, your eye knows best, therefore, select photos that connect with you and save them in a favorites folder. You will begin to notice patterns and an overall style developing. This is when you can evaluate if your photographer’s style is aligned with yours.
Videography Style:
Watch a few wedding videos on YouTube and notice what moments catch your eye–and even possibly make you emotional to watch. These are most likely the same type of clips you want to be included in your wedding video. When interviewing different companies, review if their style mirrors yours–if its way off, even if the price is right, this may bite you in the butt later.
Experience with Weddings.
During the interview process, ask your photographer and videographer how long they have been shooting weddings for. Separately, ask them why they love what they do. Typically, if they are passionate about their craft, the answer will flow easily. If they don’t–you will quickly be able to tell. Lastly, you want to clarify their technical skills–did they go through any technical training or is their art just a hobby? With this being said, a hobby does not mean they are not educated however they may be a limit to their breadth of knowledge.
Reviews and Recommendations.
Look up reviews online and seek recommendations from friends or wedding planners. Positive feedback is a great indicator of how reliable the photographer and videographer is.
Review their portfolio.
Ask to see full wedding galleries and not just highlight reels. Confirm if they shot and edited the footage themselves or if was it done by someone else. This gives you a better sense of how they capture an entire event, including key moments and candid shots.
Budget and Pricing.
Take notes of what is included in their pricing and ensure it aligns with what you need. Although wedding photography and videography is mainly packaged, it is important to also ensure the package fits what you need. If you have a 4 hour wedding and the only package available is 8 hours, you’re going to be paying for more than you need.
Backup Plan.
Clarify what the backup option is in case of issues. Typically all professional photographers and videographers carry two cameras with them in case of issues and malfunctions.
Contract.
Carefully read through the contract and ensure all the details are confirmed before signing anything or paying a deposit. This helps to protect you and your photographer and videographer.
