Tanning with Clear Spray Tan Solution

For years I steered clear from spray tanning with a clear solution.

One, because I had a bad experience with a spray tan booth and it traumatized me. Two, because to be quite frank with you I was worried I wouldn’t be able to produce a great-looking spray tan. 

I became open to the concept of a clear solution when a spray tan artist and trainer from Belgium shared her insight. Check out GREET from Glow Beauty!

She shared with me the following benefits of using clear solution:

  1. It’s great for brides who are worried about bronzer from spray tan solution transferring on their dress. 

  2. Topical bronzer can stick to age spots so it works great for mature clients. 

  3. You don’t have to worry about getting it on your clothes or bed sheets. 

  4. Occasionally bronzer and stick or move around for women who work out a lot around their bra line. 

Ok, she sold me on BRIDE (lol) since we do a lot of wedding beauty services. 

Despite it being clear, and therefore you can not actually see where the solution is being applied, with practice and confidence in spray tanning for the past 10 + years I was quickly able to pick up the technique and start offering it to my clients. 

And, in fact, you can actually see where the solution is spraying due to the mist in the air. 

Here are some tips for a flawless clear solution spray:

  • Ensure you use 50 ml / 2oz of the solution to the body. Measure in your spray tan gun before and after the spray. 

  • Take your time and don’t talk while applying while you master the technique. 

  • Test on a few people before charging your clients or let them know you are trying a few solution options + share the benefits.

  • Don’t spray the feet at all.

  • Spray hands last and blend right away while the solution is still wet. 

  • Use a barrier cream on the hands + feet.
